  • For your Made In Romania shopping tour, we stick mainly to the city centre but your guide takes you to several secret spots that would be difficult to find on your own.

We begin the best way we know how — with a local snack to keep your energy levels up for the experience ahead. The snack is a traditional Romanian chocolate bar, which holds an interesting rebranding story, representative of the changes that occurred in the country during the transition from communism to capitalism.

Our first shopping stop leads you to discover a couple of achingly cool local brands, including the city’s most famous bookshop, which boasts a lovely success story that leaves you warm and fuzzy inside.

Up next, we take you to some inspirational crafts shops that offer the discerning shopper handmade products that make for wonderfully authentic souvenirs and gifts for friends and family. As you browse what’s on offer, we chat about how the Romanian craft movement influenced the life of country folk living outside the big cities. One of our stops is particularly interesting because it operates as a social enterprise that supports local communities.

We continue our stroll through charming hidden streets uncovering old parts of the city centre that managed to survive the communist era and remain hidden behind communist blocks. Here, we chat about sustainable shopping and we see recycling in action at a secondhand vintage shop.

A quick refreshment stop at a hip venue, popular with locals, gives you a chance to taste some of the best coffee in the city, alongside some tasty artisanal goodies.

Then we’re off to check out a buzzing flea market to check out the secondhand treasures on offer before making our way to the coolest bookstore in town, which is located inside a former bank.

On our way to our final location, we stop and grab a freshly made local pastry. Your shopping tour ends back in the old town, at a trendy shop/bar. This is one of the best concept stores in Bucharest and is sure to impress, as it’s a coffee shop, designer store, and party area all in one! Some of the products are designed by a local rapper in partnership with a famous, ethnic designer, cleverly incorporating traditional motifs into modern items.

Your tour ends here and we sincerely hope you picked up some local keepsakes to remember your trip to Romania. Before you go, don’t forget to ask you guide for tips on what else to see, do, and eat during your stay.
